Rayon with a bit of body, not the flimsy kind. It sits away from the skin, which is the reason a flared kurta in a deep colour still works in warm weather, and it takes the maroon dye evenly so there is no patchiness across the panels. Wash it cold and the shade stays deep. This is a mid-weight rayon, closer to a heavy viscose than a thin lining cloth, which is why the hem hangs properly instead of fluttering about.

The cut is a flared kurta, calf length, opening from the waist so the hem carries weight and swings properly. Round neck, 3/4 sleeve. Embroidery is placed on the front panel and left off the back, keeping the maroon clean where you sit against it. There is no side slit and no lining. Sizes offered are XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL and 3XL.

Gold-toned jewellery and embroidered juttis push it towards festive wear and weddings. A beige dupatta and heels take it to an evening reception. Left plain with leggings, it becomes ordinary daily wear that happens to look considered. One kurta in the box, made in Jaipur, packed without plastic.
