Soft cotton, the breathable kind that holds a press through most of a working day and then gives up somewhere around 6pm, which is honest for any cotton kurti in a Jaipur summer. It is opaque in white, it takes a cold wash without going grey, and it gets more comfortable after the third or fourth wear.

The cut is straight, with 3/4 sleeves and a clean line from shoulder to hem. Hand embroidery in maroon thread runs across the white ground, worked by hand rather than machine, so the density shifts very slightly from piece to piece. There is no side slit and no lining anywhere. The kurti is cut in XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL and 3XL.

Maroon on white is a specific combination and it goes further than it sounds. White palazzos and juttis for festive wear, jeans and flats for college wear, plain leggings and a tote for office wear. Gold hoops when the day turns into an evening. Wash it separately in cold water for the first two or three rounds so the maroon thread does not bleed onto the white. One kurti in the box, no bottom.
